Death of the Wehrmacht This young soldier was killed while defending the approaches to the Adolph Hitler Rhine bridge at Uerdingen. Viersen waterpoint operated by the 327th Engineer Combat Battalion. This is one of several such waterpoints which supported the 102d Infantry Division's attack to the Rhine. Here thousands of gallons of water were purified daily. Prisoners of war trek back to the Linnich enclosure on 23 February. Before the war ended over 147,000 had surrendered to Ozark troops. Note wreckage of an SS vehicle in the foreground.
