GERMAN DUMMY COASTAL POSITIONS
Dummy and alternate emplacements, common in German defense
systems, were found among the coastal defenses on the Norman coast.
Rough logs, covered with camouflage netting. simulated big guns in
the dummy positions. In attempting to mislead Allied naval gunfire,
the Germans used not only the dummy guns for deception, but moved
coastal real guns out of open, concrete emplacements and casemates
to open emplacements hidden in hedgerows about 1½ miles from
their original positions.
