LIGHT ARMORED HALF-TRACK
Able to fire at either ground or air targets, the German
reconnaissance armored half-track Sd.Kfz. 250/9 is armed with one 20-mm
gun (2 cm Kw.K.38) and one 7.92-mm machine gun (M.G.34 or 42).
Both weapons are mounted coaxially, and may be elevated for
anti-aircraft fire. Photographs indicate that this vehicle, which has the
standard 1-ton armored half-track chassis designated by the basic
Sd.Kfz. number 250, is equipped with the same antigrenade screens
and rotating gun shield and gun mount as are used on the light
armored car with 20-mm gun, le.Pz.Sp.Wg. (2 cm) (Sd.Kfz. 222).
The Sd.Kfz. 250/9 is equipped with radio, and carries a crew of three.
Two submachine guns (M.P.40) are carried for close-in protection
and for personal armament of crew members sent forward to
reconnoiter on foot.
