A specimen of an improvised German stick grenade has recently been
examined in N. Africa. The grenade consists of a rough wooden handle, to the
end of which a standard 100 gm demolition charge is secured by two thick strands
of wire. The charge is surrounded by a casing of coarse concrete, 1/2 in thick.
The charge is threaded and it would appear that the friction igniter, as on
the normal German stick grenade, is employed. The handle is grooved to take
string and at the base of the handle, there is a small recess for the porcelain bead.
Dimensions are as follows: -
Overall length | | 14 in |
Length of concrete head | | 4 in |
Diameter of concrete head | | 2 3/4 in |
Thickness of concrete casing | | 1/2 in |
