NEW GERMAN 7.92 MM MG 43

Some general details only have been reported thus far about the introduction of a new German machine gun -- 7.92-mm Model 43.

It appears to be basically similar to the MG 42 (see Tactical and Technical Trends No. 31, p. 37), but lighter -- a weight of 18 pounds has been mentioned -- and with an even higher rate of fire. The charging handle is said to be vertical instead of horizontal as in the MG 42.
