This section on the tactical employment of artillery in
the North African campaigns is influenced by two
considerations: a.
The Task-Force Principle. The
development of the task-force principle underlines the importance
of the coordinated tactical action of all arms. Therefore,
while the main focus here is on artillery action, this will
always be referred to the general operations in which
artillery plays its part.
b. Special Conditions of Desert Warfare. The terrain
and climate of this theater have imposed certain
limitations and set certain problems, some of which involve or
affect the use of artillery.
