Maj. Gen. William S. Key
September 1940 - October 1942. Gen. Key later served as Provost General Marshal in Europe and commander of U.S. forces in Iceland.
Maj. Gen. Troy H. Middleton (1889-1976)
October 1942 - December 1943. Gen. Middleton commanded the 45th Infantry Division during the North Africa, Sicily, and Salerno invasions. In December 1943, he assumed command of the VIII Corps. After WWII, Gen. Middleton served as President of Louisiana State University (LSU). He died in 1976.
Maj. Gen. William W. Eagles (1895-1988)
December 1943 - December 1944. Gen. Eagles led the 45th Infantry Division during the battle for the Anzio beachhead. Gen. Eagles retired in 1953 and passed away in 1988.
Maj. Gen. Robert T. Frederick (1907-1970)
December 1944 - September 1945. Gen. Frederick formerly commanded the 1st Special Service Force and the 1st Airborne Task Force. He commanded the 45th until its return to the United States. After WWII, Gen. Frederick commanded the 4th Infantry Division and 6th Infantry Division.
Brig. Gen. Henry J. D. Meyer
September 1945 - Inactivation.
